Review Blitz: Going Down in Flames by Chris Cannon

If her love life is going down in flames, she might as well spark a revolution.

Finding out on your sixteenth birthday you’re a shape-shifting dragon is tough to swallow. Being hauled off to an elite boarding school is enough to choke on.

Since Bryn is the only crossbreed at the Institute for Excellence, all eyes are on her, but it’s a particular black dragon, Zavien, who catches her attention.

Zavien is tired of the Council’s rules. Segregated clans, being told who to love, and close-minded leaders make freedom of choice almost impossible. The new girl with the striped hair is a breath of fresh air, and with Bryn’s help, they may be able to change the rules.

At the Institute, old grudges, new crushes, and death threats are all part of a normal day for Bryn. She’ll need to learn to control her dragon powers if she wants to make it through her first year at school. But even focusing on staying alive is difficult when you’re falling for someone you can't have.

OK, since this is the internet, most of you have no clue that I have 6 dragon tattoos, and want more! So when I started reading this book and found out that the characters were dragons, I knew that this book was going to take me on a wile ride!! And that is what this book took me on. Bryn is getting ready to turn 16, but when she does she is in a huge surprise. But a week before her birthday, her world is turned upside down. She has to leave everything that she knows and go to a boarding school for people like her. Being a human is hard, Being a half-breed dragon is hell.

I believe that this is the first book that I have read by Chris, and I can tell you that this isn't going to be the last. I mean, how could it? I really want to see what happens with Bryn and Zavian. You can tell that Chris gets really excited about writing. It shows in her words. This book is a roller coaster and it is a really wild ride. There are so many twists and turns in this book that you will read this book until there isn't anything left to read.

I couldn't put this book down at all. I loved every minute of this book that I read. I can't wait to read what Chris put out next!!

Chris Cannon lives in Southern Illinois with her husband and her three dogs, Pete the shitzu who sleeps on her desk while she writes, Molly the ever-shedding yellow lab, and Tyson the sandwich-stealing German Shepherd Beagle. Blog Tour: Essence by AL Waddington

Jocelyn Timmons does not believe she is anything special — just an ordinary high school senior, living an ordinary life full of school-work, volleyball and friends. She’s about to find out how wrong she is.
Jackson Chandler moved in to the house across the street. His dark wavy hair, green eyes and charismatic personality draws everyone to him. Everyone, but Jocelyn.
Whenever Jackson gets near Jocelyn she feels ill and dizzy. When he touches her, she blacks out and has visions of another life, in another time. As the odd hallucinations evolve and become clearer, she feels a strong pull towards the people she sees there. Frightened, she watches her once stable life begin to crumble around her and she begins to question her own sanity.
Could it be possible that these episodes are actually her own memories of a life she is living somehow, somewhere, some-when? Maybe this is time-travel or some other paranormal mysticism? Our minds often wander, but can our souls?

Jenna bounced up to my locker right before lunch, more
excited than I had seen her in a long time. “Guess what Kyle just told me.”
“I can’t imagine.” I truly was not in the best of moods since it seemed in the last two days Jackson had quickly become friends with everyone in my world, making it near impossible for me to go anywhere without him being there already; and since I was purposely avoiding him, it was rapidly making me the outsider.
“Jackson told him this morning that he is going to ask you the homecoming dance this Friday.”
She bounced up and down as I rolled my eyes, looking inside my locker to avoid her excitement.
     “Isn’t that great?”
“Yeah. Wonderful,” I muttered under my breath. Why can’t he focus on someone else and realize that I don’t want anything to do with him? Is he that blind or just that stupid?
“So now we can all go together.”
I slammed my locker closed and confronted her.
“Look, Jenna. I’m not going to the dance with Jackson or anyone else. I don’t want to go to some silly dance. Seriously, let it go.”
Jenna looked shocked and annoyed at my lack of enthusiasm.
“Jocelyn, you really need to lighten up. You’re quickly becoming an old shrew!” Her forehead wrinkled, giving me a stern look of disapproval.
“Thanks, I appreciate that.” I walked away, leaving her standing by my locker, looking completely flustered.

I went into read this book blinder than a bat in the day time. I didn't read the synopsis, I didn't read any blurbs. The only that that really caught my attention was the cover. Sometimes it is good to judge a book by its cover, and in this case I am glad that I did. Not only did this book keep me enthralled, but it kept getting better. Some book just plateau and they stay awesome, this book holds mystery and the desire to keep reading.

What if one day you meet a new person, and you immediately start to feel sick to your stomach? And when you go and shake that persons hand, you faint? And while you are passed out you start to see visions of a decade that you aren't apart of, but you remember them as though you are living there? Well, I'd be going crazy that is what I would be doing. Jocelyn is doing this around Jackson, the new kid that lives across the street. But she can't figure out what or why this is happening. She really likes him, but can't hold hands with him. Can she figure out what is going on? Or will she go completely crazy in the process?

This book is great for teen readers and up. It does speak of marriage, and out of wedlock pregnancy, but other than that, this book is outstanding! Like I said at the beginning, I didn't read anything about this book going into it. And I am so glad that I didn't. I was expecting anything and I left my mind open. I can't wait until I can read the second one!!!
