DW_Excerpt

Acting on a whim, I brought my hands up and pressed my palms against his cheeks. They burned like a fever. I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get used to that. His black eyes latched onto mine. I waited as he struggled with something internally, pain and confliction clearly written across his face. Eventually, his expression shifted, the hard planes of his features softened into a sweet smile. As our faces drew closer, my breathing became ragged …with anticipation. When he wet his lips, it was nearly my undoing. My chest heaved with expectation, trembling each time his breath crept across my skin. I looked into his eyes; the crimson specks were recessing, like a fading tide within a murky sea of black ink. They were hypnotizing. “If I am under a trance, don’t ever rouse me,” I murmured. His eyes glimmered just before he pressed his warm lips to mine. Our mouths moved together in perfect unison, as if they were moulded to fit one another. The kiss deepened, and together we were swept away by our unravelling emotions, pawing at one another as though each other’s breath was the only oxygen we had. When we finally parted for air, we both stood staring at the other, panting. Dominic took my hands, his touch warming me like a soothing balm. He cast his eyes down to our intertwined fingers, his long lashes fanning out over his high cheekbones, and he said, “My fraying willpower makes it hard to walk away from you.” “Then don’t,” I whispered. ~~I received this in exchange for my honest opinion~~

This is one of those books that when you put it down to do something else, you are thinking about it while doing that other thing. This review is harder to write because, I cannot convey what I am feeling to words. This is a great book, please don't misunderstand. The feels that I had with this book are strong. I think I went through several feels before this book was over. I was scared for Kara. I also felt sad for her. But the main thing that I didn't feel for her situation is pity. She has had a hard year, and pity is the last thing that she needs. When she feels the eyes of a dark and mysterious person, she is drawn to him. She doesn't understand it, and frankly she really doesn't want to. Then there is the other boy, Cayden, she is drawn to him as well, but not in the same regard as Dominic. When she understands who Dominic is, and what he is about, she still is drawn to him.

This book will make you look at good vs. evil in a whole new light. The battle that people have with addiction and with daily personal struggles is where sin comes in. But, when you read this book, there are things that I never expected to happen. First off, I was crying at the end of this book. Im not going to tell you why, you have to read to find out. But I know you will have at least 1 tear escape from your eyes. I am very happy at the way the book ended. I was grateful that there was some good that came out of everything.

If you haven't read J.M. Davis' book yet, then you need too!!

Blog Tour: The Trouble with St. John by Katie Bloomstrom

the trouble with st john

Katie Bloomstrom will be on tour June 1-8 with her novel The Trouble With St. John

From breakthrough author Katie Bloomstrom comes the world's unlikeliest super-sleuth...

"After all that work and sleuthing and investment in my great detective notebook, I had nothing. In fact, the only successful thing I've done since stepping foot on this island was successfully believe all the lies everyone told me. Oh, I've also successfully been kidnapped, successfully almost drowned, and successfully eaten more Xanax than I've ever eaten before in my life. And in two days I’m supposed to just leave and pretend none of this ever happened. If I can even leave after being framed for murder." When shy, medium-looking Samantha Stone winds up on the romantic tropical island of St. John after getting dumped at the altar, she’s faced with two options: (1) sit in her sweaty villa and cry over her un-marriage to her idiot ex-fiancĂ© while watching Love Actually on repeat and mass-eating Oreos and Xanax, or (2) pursue a hot vacation sexcapade with the gorgeous travel god she meets at baggage claim. Really, what’s a girl to do? But, after losing both her super spendy non-diamond engagement ring and her mysterious tropical island fling candidate in the same drunken night, Sam quickly learns that St. John isn't quite what she bargained for. In fact, she'll be lucky if she can make it back home alive. Join breakthrough author Katie Bloomstrom as she takes you on a journey into a picture perfect paradise filled with men, money, and mystery where nothing – and no one – is quite what it seems.

~~I received this in exchange for my honest opinion~

This book is awesome! It is like you are reading day by day the adventures of Samantha. Everything that happens while she is on her Un-honeymoon. Yes you read that correctly. This book is an easy read, with twists and turns in there. You think you have everything figured out, but you don't. I want to say so much more, but that will give away good parts of the book. You need to check this book out!! This is a great summer read!!

Zoey Daniels has been tossed from foster home to foster home, where she grows up fast and tough. When she is placed in her “last-chance” home, she finds a reason to stay and turn her life around: her foster sister, Lexie, who is paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. Zoey will do anything to keep her safe.
After high school, Zoey is hired by a special government agency, the Department of Molecular Genetics (DMG), where she meets the other reason to remain: Daniel, her co-worker. The man she loves.
But there is something unique about Zoey. She can see fae. Because of this, the DMG hires her to work as a Collector: catching, researching, testing, and using the fae to save human lives. The work never registers on her sympathy radar. She was raised to think of fae as beasts that feed on humans and want to destroy them. When devastation hits Seattle, Zoey's whole world is turned upside down. The electric storm connects her to a ruthless fae, a Wanderer named Ryker, whose dealings expose them to even more trouble and danger. They embark on a journey, running and hiding from both the government and fae, both of which threaten their lives and those they love.

Blog Tour: Damaged by Avelyn Paige

Saints and Sinners Book Promotions is proud to present a debut novel by debut author Avelyn Paige!!

Evie Carter has faced trials and tribulations her entire life. Her teenage years have been ripped away from her as she battles cancer. Just when things can’t get any worse, her doctor delivers the news that it’s finally time to make a life or death decision. Her options are limited and come with deadly consequences. The miracle drug that is meant to save her life changes her on a cellular level. She might not be damaged anymore, but she might just be damned in her new life.

Barnes & Noble: http://goo.gl/0DhBap

As I return his gaze, my heart seems to stop and time slows to a screeching halt. There’s nothing else that he can do to save me. The only chance I have now is to trust that these researchers in their government funded laboratories have discovered some miracle drug that might give me my life back. I lean back into my pillows clutching the black and gold fleece Purdue blanket my eight year old niece, Shay, made me when my hospital stays increased to weeks instead of days. Touching the soft fleece helps my rapid heartbeat slow down and allows my mind to consider the options. I close my eyes and consider what I have to gain if I could through with the drug trials. It could help me lead a normal life if it works or it could take away the quality of life in the time I have left.  I know deep down I want to live and this trial could mean everything in my battle. After what seems like hours, even though it was only a few minutes in reality, I open my eyes and look for my parents. They are both sitting in the blue plastic covered recliners in my room holding each other’s hands with their foreheads pressed together in what I am assuming is prayer.  They hear the plastic move on my hospital bed as I shift trying to make myself as comfortable as I can with all the tubes coming out of me and they turn their faces towards me. The look on my mother’s face tells me that they know I’m about to make the decision that will forever change our family. A decision that I don’t even think they would have the strength to make on my behalf. I turn my eyes to Dr. Bob, who is still sitting on the edge of my bed waiting for my decision. It takes me a few seconds to realize that I hold the keys to my life in what I’m about to say. As I open my lips the tears finally begin to flow.
I utter quietly as I wipe away my tears, “I want to do the trial. Where do I sign?”

~~I received this in exchange for my honest opinion~~

I liked this book, but I didn't love this book. I will get the next one because it has left me intrigued. I found the storyline to be excellant. I haven't read anything like this before, there was a good plot twist that I didn't see coming at all. Evie is on her deathbed and has tried everything under the sun to cure or stop the growth of the cancer, but nothing has worked, until now.

This has some action in it, and a lot of questions that weren't answered in this book. However, I am sure that Avelyn will answer them in future books. Her writing is fresh and new, as stated above, I haven't read anything like this. Sure there are storylines that kind of touch on the subject but she has actually written about it. Give this book a try!!

Avelyn Paige is a born and raised Indiana girl. She may be a Hoosier by birth, but she’s a Boilermaker by choice! Release Day Blitz: The Player by Denise Grover Swank

Google Play: http://bit.ly/1GbsH50

Book two in the USA Today bestselling Wedding Pact series.

Divorce attorney Blair Hansen is convinced that marriage should be based on practicality, not passion. But as her own wedding approaches, she finds herself remembering her law school boyfriend, the only man she's ever loved, and regretting what might have been. Then a twist of fate lands Garrett back in her life, and the man who loomed large in her past is suddenly casting a shadow over her wedding, making her question everything. To complicate matters further, the job she loves is in peril, and she can feel the ‘perfect’ life she’s fashioned for herself start to crumble under her feet. Could everything she's believed about life and love be wrong?

Garrett Lowry is a divorce attorney who's ready to settle down. The problem is that he can’t find a woman who suits him nearly as well as the one he loved and lost. He broke her heart by playing the field after their break up—something he’s always regretted. But after months of pining for Blair, Garrett stumbles across her in a freak coincidence—and then destiny keeps throwing them together, the coincidences becoming ever more unlikely. He’s convinced it's a sign they should give their love a second chance, but Blair is engaged to another man—a man who is absolutely wrong for her.

Can Garrett convince Blair that a player once isn’t a player forever, and that happy endings aren’t just for dreamers?

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Denise Grover Swank was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lived in the area until she was nineteen. Then she became a nomadic gypsy, living in five cities, four states and ten houses over the course of ten years before she moved back to her roots. She speaks English and smattering of Spanish and Chinese which she learned through an intensive Nick Jr. immersion period. Her hobbies include witty Facebook comments (in own her mind) and dancing in her kitchen with her children. (Quite badly if you believe her offspring.) Hidden talents include the gift of justification and the ability to drink massive amounts of caffeine and still fall asleep within two minutes. Her lack of the sense of smell allows her to
perform many unspeakable tasks.

She has six children and hasn’t lost her sanity.
Or so she leads you to believe.

The shock on Blair’s face matched his own surprise at his out-of-nowhere declaration.

Nana Ruby was going to kill him.

He’d had no intention of laying claim to the ring, and in truth, he could give a rat’s ass about it. But damned if he was going to stand by and let his punk cousin marry Blair, let alone with that ring.

Now, instead of diffusing the situation, he’d ratcheted it up to Def-Con 1. Jesus, he had to get things under control.

“I won’t rip the ring off the bride-to-be’s hand, if that’s what you concerned about,” he said, dropping Blair’s hand and trying to control his racing heart. “We’ll wait for Nana to come tomorrow night. She can help make the decision.”

This brought on a new round of shouting and dismay. Whiney Neil tossed out the phrase “you’re her favorite.” While that was probably true, he doubted Nana could help him get the girl, which was his real goal. That one was all on him.

Blair looked on in confusion, making it abundantly clear they’d kept her in the dark about the questionable ownership of her ring. But soon her bewilderment turned to anger as she narrowed her eyes at him.

“It’s time for all of you to pay up,” his aunt said shaking the plastic cat jar. “Blair, you got off easy this time. You only owe a dollar. Neil, you owe two, and you, Gene Neilson Fredrick, must owe at least five between the drinking and the cursing.”

Uncle Gene and Aunt Debra had a stare off for several seconds before Gene caved. He must have decided to choose his battles because he dug out his wallet and sheepishly stuck a five-dollar bill into the jar. Neil put in his money and Garrett handed over a dollar when Debra shoved the jar in Blair’s direction.

His aunt scowled at him. “Surprisingly, you don’t owe anything.”

Garrett tucked his money into the jar and winked at Blair. “Oh, this is for the bride. Call it an early wedding gift. But it this is for cursing, as the label suggests, you owe some money yourself, Aunt Debra.” His eyebrows rose with mock recrimination.

“And I do believe I need to have a discussion with my mother about my true parentage. No one ever told me I was a bastard.”

Debra’s face turned red, although Garrett couldn’t tell if it was from
embarrassment or anger. Probably both.

He’d earned a scowl from Blair for donating the money on her behalf, but now he could tell she was trying to hold back a grin.

"That was an unfortunate loss of self-control.” The woman’s face twisted into disgust as she pulled her wallet out of her purse and pulled out one dollar. She screwed an indignant expression on her face. “The Lowrys seem to bring out the worst in me.”

Blair tipped her head, her eyes dancing with mischief. “Actually, Debra, you owe two dollars. One for informing your nephew of his illegitimacy and the second for spelling out the home of you know who.”

   Debra’s eyes widened in shock.

“Blair!” Neil cried out in horror.

Garrett knew the Fredricks liked to tiptoe around his aunt’s self-righteous attitude.

He was glad to see Blair hadn’t kowtowed like the rest of them.

“You know who?” Garrett asked in amusement. He couldn’t help but take pleasure in riling up his aunt and irritating his cousin. Especially since Blair seemed to find Debra as obnoxious as he did. “Dare I ask who that is?”

Blair lifted her eyebrows. “Why, the prince of darkness himself.”

“Lord Voldemort?” Garrett teased, shooting his aunt an amused look.

She wasn’t so pleased. “Who is this Lord Voldemort you keep talking about? Do we need to add him to the kitty list?”

Garrett burst out into laughter. He was surprised his aunt didn’t already know about the notorious villain.

“No, Mom,” Neil said. “He’s a character from a children’s book, which explains why Garrett is so enthralled with him.”

Garrett noticed he left Blair off the naughty list, but it didn’t stop him from giving her a look of reproach. She glanced away, trying to hide her grin.

So his Blair was still there, lurking below the prim and proper exterior. Just like he’d found her years ago.
