The guards moved among us, placing dentist-office Dixie cups of what looked like water in front of everyone. A separate guard came to where I sat on the floor, clutching my knees. She lightly took my arm.

“Please return to the table.” Her voice was smooth. “You’ve had a shock. Have some water.”

I wasn’t about to drink anything they gave us. It was Day One all over again, only this time, it was Guyana. We were all being served the Kool-Aid. Next stop, mass graves.

Stupidly, my friends and fellow prisoners had no such qualms. Didn’t anybody watch the History channel? I stared as they all took shaky sips without hesitation.

“Just take a small sip.” The female guard was still with me. “It’ll calm you.”

My throat constricted. My whole body was on revolt. Shaking my head, I didn’t meet her eyes. I only stared at the white cup of water. Braxton was at my side, and he drained his. What the hell made him do that? Did he want to die?

Seconds ticked past and nothing happened. Nobody passed out. Nobody did anything strange—except forget what we’d just witnessed here. Braxton picked up his fork to finish his lunch. They all did. Like one of us had not just been taken out “swiftly and finally.”

Only he had, and I was reeling from the shock.

“Hearing that story makes me wish I could have been the one to protect you,” he said.

“I don’t need your protection,” I sniffed. “I’m little, but I can take care of myself.”

“Everyone needs help. Sometimes.” He reached up and slid the hair back from his face exposing the scar on his cheek.

I didn’t know how to answer that. I still didn’t know how he’d gotten those scars, but more than that, I didn’t know who I wanted protecting me now.

I stepped through the fence. “I guess this is good-night,” I whispered.

“Sleep well, doctor.”

I shook my head and sneaked past the cabins across the dark yard and into the dormitory. Once inside I stood for several minutes with my face pressed against the doorjamb.

Why was this happening? I wasn’t this kind of person. Other girls got their feelings all mixed up over boys, but I didn’t. That question had been settled in my mind years ago, and yet here I was acting like a starry-eyed little twit. I was failing in my job to rescue us. Everyone was counting on me, and here I was useless, fighting this battle with myself. I had to get it together. I had to get myself back on track, for all of us.

This is one of those books that sneaks up on you. At first is was kinda boring, but that doesn't mean stop reading the book. That means the good stuff is in the middle, just like a Twinkie!! Ellie is a cop. Her brother is a detective and her dad is the director of the precinct that she works in. All she wants is to make her dad proud. She goes by the rules and never steps around anything. That is until she tries to stop a drug deal. She is taken and wake up several hundred miles away from her home. 

I believe that this is the first book that I have read by Emily. I know that it isn't going to be the last. This book has a way to keep you reading. It keeps you coming back, and it keeps you wanting more. This book has mystery and suspense. I highly recommend this book. You will not be disappointed at all. Her writing is smooth and it keeps you reading!

Man, I couldn't get through this book fast enough!! I love this series. Ven is trying everything that she can to get the rest of the imitations to safety. But, there are things and people that are standing in her way. Linc is right beside her through everything, their love is undying and it is very strong.

Heather has done it again. She has made a book that leaves you with the "why the hell did this end? I need more, I don't want to wait, I need to know what happens" face. I just love reading what she comes up with. Heather is a fantastic storyteller. The way that she writes, makes you believe that there are really imitations of people out there. “Liz, I’ve lied – ” I interrupt him.

“We are people, Ryan. We all make mistakes. You think I’m so pure? I wanted to use David to stay in Seattle. I agreed to marry someone for my own selfish reasons. Then I came to Russia and spent more than six months making my Granny’s life a living hell. She lost her only daughter. I never once thought about her feelings. She was old, she needed my care, and all I did was sulk for my old life. Even with you, how do you know I’m not using you? Maybe I just like this sense of fulfillment I feel with you that overwhelms the loneliness I've felt for so long. I am not a saint, Ryan. I also did awful things.”

Ryan contemplates my words for several minutes. Then says quietly, “I lied to you.”

I sigh. Now I don’t like the direction this conversation is taking. “You already told me that you didn’t need an assistant. There’s more?”

“I read your journal.” 

The blood drains from my face.

“You what?” My voice trembles.

“When we were in Nice – the night you got drunk with Mark – I saw your notebook and I read it.”

“I … I …” No words come out of my mouth because I don’t have any. I can’t believe he did it. I wrote my sacred thoughts there, poured some raw feelings on those pages. They were never meant for anyone’s eyes other than mine.

“I’m sorry I did it. I was at a loss, I couldn’t understand what I was feeling for you.”

“So you read my journal to understand yourself? Ryan, it’s private. I poured my soul there. How could you do this?” I may be screaming now, but I don’t care. Some boundaries can’t be crossed.

“That’s who I am, Elizabeth. I don’t care about people’s privacy.”

“I’m so mad at you right now. I don’t even know what to say. Is that all?”

“No.”

Oh God!

“Tell me.” He almost looks scared. That’s when I know there are so many more lies he doesn’t want to tell me about. “Now, Ryan. You are going to tell me every damn thing. You owe me this.”

There are certain books that just leave you with more questions than answers. This book answers all the questions that I had, but one. I'm not going t reveal that question because it will give away a huge part of the book. I was immediately drawn into Flawed and Damaged. There was a mystery around Elizabeth, I never could put my finger on it, but I kept reading because I needed to know what made her the way that she is. 

Ryan is an enigma all on his own. He has a background that isn't an ideal one. His father was never there, and when he was, he wasn't the loving that he should have been. Ryan had his little brother to think about. Everything that he did was for his brother Mark.

The chemistry that is between Ryan and Elizabeth is strong. They try and try to avoid each other, but the pull that is there is massive. THey can only deny each other for so long before their will breaks. 

I want to read the next book. I need to read the next book. I need to know what happens. I need to know that Elizabeth will finally be happy. I know that you will like this book just as much as I did. I gave it four stars because even though the book grabbed me, it was easy to put it down. There were parts in the book that I had to re-read a couple of times in order to make sense of it. You will not be disappointed in this book, and it will make you want more!!
